Unchurching is now on Amazon!

Great news! My book, Unchurching: Christianity Without Churcianity, came out last week! So, why am I just now posting about it on my blog? Because I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with messages and comments, ever since I mentioned the release on Facebook. I had no idea so many people had been eagerly awaiting the release. Thank you guys so much! Below is an animated book trailer I created that’s getting lots of attention on Facebook (not so much on YouTube… yet). I’d love it if you would share it with your friends. Also, you can click here if you want to order a copy of Unchurching.

Church Anarchist is now Unchurching

ChurchAnarchist.com is now Unchurching.com

Goodbye Church Anarchist!

After more than two-and-a-half years as Church Anarchist, I’m changing the name of this blog to Unchurching. I’m doing this for a couple of reasons:

  1. The Church Anarchist name confused a lot of people. Although the name was supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek, a lot of visitors didn’t take it that way. I spent way too much time assuring them the blog was not all that scary.
  2. Because my book, Unchurching, is a fairly comprehensive explanation of my views on church, it makes sense the blog should be a reflection of the book. (Funny enough, Unchurching was originally going to be the name of the blog anyway.)

I realize the name Unchurching is also somewhat controversial and it invites its own series of questions. However, I’m not trying to appear less provocative, just less political. Also, if you haven’t had a chance to check out my new book yet, you can download free sample chapters of Unchurching by going to NoiseTrade or by signing up for my mailing list.

New to the blog?

Because I’m gearing up for the Kickstarter launch of my new book, this blog is starting to attract new visitors. So, if you’re new to the Unchurching blog, please watch the video below. Afterward, I hope you’ll check out more of my animated videos and cartoons. Also, please consider signing up for my mailing list so you’ll be notified when my book launches on Kickstarter soon!

Breaking the Silence

If you like the Church Anarchist animated videos but they always leaving you wanting more, then I have some really good news for you. The reason things have seemed somewhat quite on my blog for awhile is because I have finally finished my first book! (Yes, I know I previously self-published a short-form book about prayer. But this is the full-length book many of you have been waiting for.) I get so many private messages and emails, asking followup questions to my videos:

Do We Know Christ or Just Know OF Him?

Christ Alone

I have a friend who has been interning for the past nine months with church workers who plant organic house churches. These churches aren’t built on non-scriptural traditions such as special buildings or senior pastors or weekly services. Instead they simply follow the example of the churches described in the Bible. They live like small Christian communities made up of family, friends and neighbors and they function like extended spiritual families. Rather than meet once a week to debrief about their separate spiritual lives, they share their day-to-day lives with one another in spiritual community, centered on Christ. Anyway, my friend recently came home for a visit and we talked about the experience of planting genuine church communities as opposed to organizing and launching an institutional type of church.

Discussion: Decision-Making In Organic Church

Here’s a video chat roundtable about decision-making in organic church. The participants were yours truly, along with Neil Cole, Keith Giles, Jon Zens and Dan Herford. The discussion was a nice way to wrap up our series of blog posts which started with Why Churches Don’t Need Senior Pastors. For anyone interested in the aries, that first post also includes links to all the other posts.
